Theo Chocolate Review

Friday, November 06, 2009 Posted by Rita A

It is not often that a day goes by where I have not had at least one little piece of chocolate. I am always searching for a new chocolate treat to taste. I heard about Theo Chocolate and knew it was One 2 Try! Theo Chocolate is more than just chocolate. What makes Theo special is they are the only Organic, Fair Trade, Bean to Bar Chocolate Factory in the United States. Even better they allow tours of the factory in Seattle, Washington. Tours are available 7 days a week. I plan on visiting when I make a trip to Seattle. Why name it Theo? It comes from the Greek name of the Cacao tree - Theobroma Cacao, Food of the Gods. The good people at Theo Chocolate are all about Fair Trade practices and environmental concerns in the cocoa business by:

Using only pure ingredients that are grown sustainably. We source our ingredients locally whenever possible.

Partnering with our growers by ensuring they earn a living wage and have access to education for their families.

Honoring and respecting our employees and suppliers. This is possible due to the unique fact that we control every step of our own manufacturing process.

Using green energy sources to power our factory.

Using sustainable packaging and printing methods.

Educating about social and environmental accountability 7 days a week through public tours of our artisan factory.

Theo is truly an earth friendly company creating a delicious chocolate. Each chocolate is made with high quality, sustainablly sourced ingredients. Thanks to Theo Chocolate I was sent a few Theo Classic Combination chocolate bars to sample for this review. My first bar is the 70% cacao Cherry and Almond bar. Just opening the package releases a wonderful cocoa scent tickling my nose and making my mouth water. The flavor is incredible. It is a rich creamy dark chocolate with almond bits and tart cherries. The chocolate flavor lingers nicely for a smooth bold chocolate finish. This is very tasty indeed. Next I sampled the Creamy Milk Chocolate with 45% cacao. I resisted the urge to just dive in a chew the milk chocolate and let a small piece slowly melt in my mouth for a creamy smooth wonderful chocolate moment. I found the flavor warm and perfectly milky. A pleasure to experience. My last bar is the Spicy Chile dark chocolate bar. Wow there is a kick to this bar. I like chile in chocolate and this bar is more spicy in flavor. It is an adventurous flavor and it works. It has a fruity overtone. The heat is a little strong at first but the chocolate takes over. Then the heat kicks up again as an aftertaste. Bold, spicy and not for the kids. Delicious.

The Theo Chocolate Online shop offers many types of chocolate in beautiful packaging and themes. The shop also features gift items. Already a Theonista? Check out Theo Chocolate's blog.

If you are local to the Seattle area, stop in to the Theo retail store for a wonderful chocolate treat. Those at a distance can order directly and have your Theo Chocolate experience sent to your door. You can also find Theo at Whole Foods Markets and select retailers nationwide.
