Ben & Jerry's Flipped Out Review
Sunday, August 30, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try
Photo Via Serious Eats (link)Ice Cream is something my family enjoys year round. When I heard about the new Ben & Jerry's Flipped Out ice cream I had to get some for my family. Flipped Out is an ice cream treat you turn upside down to eat. Turning the cup upside down brings the fudge topping to life. The gooey fudge drips down over the fabulous Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Flipped Out comes in 3 different flavors in 2-cup packages. Vanilla Fudge Brownie, Peanut Butter Chocolate and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. All three flavors are topped with fudge.
Thanks to Liz of Ben & Jerry's I was provided coupons to try each flavor. I went for the Vanilla Fudge Brownie. I loved it. The gooey fudge is a delicious addition to the incredible Ben & Jerry's ice cream. It had a lot of fudge with generous pieces of brownie. This is a chocoholics treasure. My husband grabbed the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. I noticed he was eating it right out of the cup. I explained to him you are supposed to turn it upside down to eat it. He then ate the second cup as the flipped out intention within minutes of finishing the first cup! He liked it better the second time. Although he was not complaining during the first cup. I did not get to taste the peanut butter because they are gone. Hmmmmm, I wonder who ate the Peanut Butter ones? Head to your grocer's ice cream freezer on this very hot day to pick up Ben & Jerry's Flipped Out. Buy a few, they are so good.
Good Health Natural Products - Sweet Potato Chips
Sunday, August 30, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try
Update : Thanks to Tim at Good Health Natural Products I was able to sample the Sweet Potato Chip Glories. They are crispy with the natural flavor of the sweet potatoes plus sea salt. I liked these chips with the salt. Sometimes sweet potato chips are made with cinnamon and sugar. I prefer the natural sweetness of the sweet potato. The sea salt does make these chips delicious. If you like sweet potatoes you will love these Glories. Order some while they are in stock.
National Toasted Marshmallow Day
Sunday, August 30, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try

This is a perfect month for National Toasted Marshmallow Day with all the camping trips before school starts. For those of you not skilled on the art of toasting marshmallows I found a guide on eHow - How to Roast a Marshmallow. There are even more articles about toasting marshmallows. I like - How to Roast a Perfectly Golden Marshmallow. Once you get the roasting technique down, do you eat it or make s'mores? How about an inside out s'more! Clumbsy Cookie created Serom's : inside out s'mores. She put chocolate chips and cookie bits inside the marshmallow before toasting. Then it gets all gooey inside the marshmallow. Very clever and yummy looking. Get those sticks ready, find a campfire, or grill, or stove top and toast those marshmallows! Enjoy your day!
Chaka's MMM Sauce Review
Saturday, August 29, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try

My husband is a big meat eater. He loves to grill and is always looking for new ways to spice up and flavor meat for grilling. I had the recent opportunity to try Chaka's MMM Sauce. I found it very delicious. Chaka's MMM Sauce was created by Chaka using an old family recipe.
CHAKA'S MMM Sauce contains only the highest quality ingredients to enhance the flavor of your favorite foods. Whether you're cooking with meat, poultry, fish or vegetables you can taste the difference in your first bite.
I used the sauce as a condiment for chicken I had grilled. I next plan on using the sauce as a marinade for a recipe on Chaka's site CHAKA'S MMM BEEF CROCKPOT. That sounds delicious. I like the flavor of the MMM Sauce. It is a soy sauce, vinegar base with onions, garlic and lots of spices. It can be used in so many ways. It is very versatile. What I also like about Chaka's MMM Sauce is it has no sugars, oils or MSG. It is Fat Free. All that flavor and no fat. This is a must try for any cook looking for a zing of flavor. I can see why it is called MMM.
Chaka's offers many different high quality products that can be purchased online. His prices are very reasonable for the awesome flavored and high quality sauces. You can even buy a sampler pack to try more than one kind of sauce. For added savings, all Chaka's online orders include free shipping. What are you waiting for? Place an order today! Your friends will want to know your grilling secret. Tell them it's Chaka.
Smart Balance Products Review
Friday, August 28, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try

My family has a history of high cholesterol. It is a health issue I always monitor with my doctor. To keep my levels in check I have been using Smart Balance products which taste great and are healthier for cholesterol. Smart Balance has gone one step further by creating a Heart Healthy Food Plan that you can download here. Smart Balance products are also Best Life approved.
My butter spread of choice is Smart Balance Light. I like the buttery flavor and that it is a product that’s 50 percent lower in fat and calories. It tastes like butter to me. My father enjoys the Smart Balance with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Smart Balance offers many products based on a unique formula.
The essence of Smart Balance is its unique (in fact, patented) blend of natural vegetable oils. This blend doesn’t just avoid "bad" things like dietary cholesterol and trans fatty acids. It also works proactively, to provide your diet with the right balance of natural fats: a balance that can help you improve your blood cholesterol ratio. Our signature product, Smart Balance Buttery Spread (Regular and Light) brings this remarkable formula together with delicious buttery flavor and a wonderfully creamy texture.
I recently was able to try different Smart Balance products courtesy of Smart Balance. I wanted to try the microwave popcorn because it is one of my families favorite snacks. It is very tasty. I tried the Light Butter flavor. My husband loved it. He did not know it was healthy until I told him. He thought is was delicious. Next I tried the Smart Balance Omega Cooking & Salad Oil. I made a salad dressing with the oil. It was light and not an overpowering oil flavor at all. You can use this oil in place of other oils in cooking and salads. Then I received a surprise package in the mail containing new, soon to be marketed, Smart Balance Sour Cream. It was perfect timing for our turkey taco salad night. The sour cream comes in regular and reduced fat. I loved it. It tastes like the real thing.
I will continue to purchase Smart Balance products because they taste good. Smart Balance also knows they are good for me. Don't tell my husband it is healthy!

Skillet Bacon Jam Review
Wednesday, August 26, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try

Skillet Bacon Jam. Your first thought.. what is it? This incredibly delicious bacon product is the creation of Joshua Henderson, owner of Skillet Street Food. Joshua's concept for Skillet is to buy old Airstream trailers, convert them into full kitchens then park them by parks and local events to provide bistro style street food in the Seattle area. I was intrigued by the Skillet Bacon Jam when I first saw it on foodgawker.com featured by Matt Bites. He has a cute photo story about Skillet Bacon Jam. On tasteduds there is a recipe for Skillet Bacon Jam Fried Rice. You see Skillet Bacon Jam has quite the following.
But what is Skillet Bacon Jam?
bacon jam…..
…..what the heck is bacon jam?...
well, we’ll tell you…….we take a big bunch of really really good bacon, and render it down...add a bunch of spices..onions, etc..and let it simmer for about 6 hours…give it a quick puree, and blast chill it…and you have bacon jam..

Joshua's description is simple for a complex tasting product. I was so excited to finally receive my jar. I could not wait to taste the interesting bacon creation. I must say it is hard to describe all the flavors going on here. It is sweet reminding me of a sweet smoky barbecue sauce but then you get the onion flavor with the chewy abundant bacon. This is loaded with bacon. I tried it as a sandwich condiment and it was perfect. I also had it plain on an english muffin for breakfast. I like the idea of using it as a cooking ingredient too. This stuff is fantastic, people! My jar is almost gone. I am saving the last bit for something special. I even have it hidden in the fridge so it won't disappear on me. I am going to buy more soon or I am flying to Seattle to get some. It is that good!
Order some today. If you are in the Seattle area you can buy it from the Skillet trailer for $10.00 for an 8 oz. jar. You can order it direct for shipping here for $15.00 a jar. I guess it pays to live in Seattle. Once you try it you will crave more. Take my word for it. Order some today. How much is the airfare to Seattle from L.A.?
Many thanks to Jonathan of Skillet Street Food for providing my jar for review.

National Spumoni Day
Friday, August 21, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try

Spumoni. I do love Spumoni. It goes back to my Italian upbringing. For those not familiar with spumoni it is a triple flavor ice cream treat usually of chocolate, pistachio and cherry flavors with fruit and nut bits mixed in. It is rich and delicious. I found a recipe for the adventurous on browneyed baker. She makes a Spumoni Terrine. It looks incredible. She also has a recipe for the Cherry part of the ice cream as a simpler version. I might try to make this one. Enjoy Spumoni Day or at least have some Neapolitan ice cream. Mangia!

[me] & goji cereal review
Thursday, August 20, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try

There is a new trend in cereal products these days. Custom made blends by the consumer. One company making cereal a personal experience is [me] & goji custom artisanal cereal. I recently had the chance to make my own goji courtesy of one of the company founders Carl. Along with his friends Adam and Alexander they set out to create cereal couture. Their vision is [me] & goji using healthy foods from around the world.
The creations are truly your own. You choose your ingredients to your liking and tastes. It is mixed for you and arrives as a capsule of cereal. The process is fun to do. You add your ingredients starting with your cereal base by dragging your item into a cereal bowl. Want double ingredients? Just drag that ingredient twice. Simple. The hard part is deciding what you want in your cereal. There are many options to choose from healthy to sweet. If you get stumped they offer some delicious recommendations for flavor combinations. There is a [pink] & goji mix where $1 for every [pink] & goji mix sold will go to Pink Door nonprofit agency helping single, divorced or widowed cancer survivors open a door to a new life.
I liked the package size of your order. It is a 21 oz cereal capsule which is double that of store bought cereal. It contains 15 servings per capsule. My cereal mix is Healthy hoops base with double chocolate chips, raspberry, coconut, pecans and double cherries. I called it Black Forest Cake. It was hand mixed by Carl (he signed the capsule). Honestly when I was creating the cereal I thought my mix was a little pricey but when you figure the serving size and the quality ingredients in the mix it averages about $1.00 a serving. Well worth it. The taste is delicious. I really like the cherries in the mix. It does remind me of Black Forest Cake. [me] & goji keeps my recipe id on record so I can re-order the same mix in the future.
If you are looking for a unique cereal made by the best chef, you, try [me] & goji. It is an edible work of art.
Many thanks to Carl and [me] & goji for providing my cereal mix for review.

National Vanilla Custard Day!
Monday, August 17, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try
On evilshenanigans there is a basic Baked Vanilla Custard recipe using eggs, sugar, milk and vanilla. I am putting this in my must try it recipe box.
Rappahannock Cook & Kitchen Gardener has the same type of recipe with the addition of Maple syrup and real vanilla bean.
Another recipe twist is to add coffee to the custard. On Chateau De Reves I found such a recipe. Her Vanilla Coffee Custard is made on the stove then cooled in the refrigerator. Sounds Heavenly.
Enjoy your day. When life gives you eggs, make custard!

Gourme` Mist Review
Saturday, August 15, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try

I found the most interesting new oil and vinegar products. Gourme` Mist. These generous size bottles are truly unique. You just pump the cap and spray it. It is non-aerosol and the pumping action creates the pressure for spraying.
From the website: Gourmè Mist™ is a revolutionary, environmentally friendly, continuous mist spray bottle. All of our misters are filled with fine oils and vinegars. The first product of its kind, Gourmè Mist™ sprays better than ordinary household spray bottles and is a healthy alternative to aerosol cooking sprays. Our mister gives you the advantage of a fine aerosol-like mist in a non-aerosol mister. This means, we can deliver fantastic results without the use of alcohol, chemical propellants, or additives. It's also easy to use and comes in a disposable, recyclable bottle, which eliminates the hassles of cleaning or refilling. Our mister is healthy for you, your family, and the environment.
The misters comes in a variety of flavors of olive oil, balsamic vinegars and canola oil. I was able to sample the Extra Virgin Olive oil and the Fusions Balsamic Vinegar with Pomegranate. The pump cap is easy to use (just 3 to 4 pumps is all I did) then it releases a full powered spray. I tried it on salad first, using the olive oil then the vinegar. I found it easy to control how much oil I wanted compared to more vinegar. The taste of the oil is light and not overpowering. I loved the balsamic vinegar with the pomegranate flavor. I have even sprayed these on bread as a sandwich condiment. They can also be used for cooking.
Each full size bottle contains 384 servings based on a 1 second spray at under 5 calories per serving. Great for portion control. My only concern with Gourme` Mist is overpumping. The directions state pump 8 - 10 times then spray. When I followed those directions, I felt the spray was way more than a 1 second serving spray. Once I adjusted how many times I was pumping the cap the spray came out fine and I felt better about the serving size. Gourme` Mist can be found at many retail locations nationwide or ordered online.
Try Gourme` Mist today for your health, the environment and your tastebuds.
National Creamsicle Day
Friday, August 14, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try

Oh this brings back memories. I remember running after the ice cream man on a hot summer day with change in my hand. My choice of treat was almost always the creamsicle. We used to call them 50/50 bars. The cool orange sherbet with the creamy vanilla ice cream center was summer bliss on a stick. It still does that to me. I guess I am still in my childhood. I found some recipes based on the creamsicle flavor.
On Dinner & Dessert there is a Vanilla Creamsicle Whoopie Pie that looks absolutely delicious. I am sure to try this one.
On That's My Home I found a Creamsicle cake recipe using a cake mix, cream cheese and jello. Simple. Yum.
Last: I found an adults only recipe for an Orange Creamsicle Frozen Cocktail on examiner.com. Wow I bet that is delish.
Wait, I hear something! Oh yes! It is the ice cream truck.

Last on my list: go to foodgawker.com and search the word "bite". You will find many delicious looking recipes all begging to be tried. Thank you IBM for letting me have a byte of the blogging world.
Play in the Sand Day!
Tuesday, August 11, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try

Today is Play in the Sand day. You guessed it, I found some fun sand theme recipes. It was a slight challenge because I kept getting sandwiches recipes. A little digging (pardon the pun) and I located these cute ideas. Allrecipes.com has Sand Cups made with vanilla pudding with crushed vanilla wafers as the sand. They added gummy worms and gummy sharks for extra effect. Disney Family Fun has a Towering Sand Castle Cake made from stacked yellow cake and ice cream cones for details. Very cute idea. My favorite for the day is from the decorated cookie. Meaghan is a professional cookie decorator. She created a shore thing - candy sea shells using her own candy clay recipe. Lots of detail in her work. It is fun the play in the sand, even more fun if you can eat it. Grab your pail and shovel, enjoy the day.

S'mores Day
Monday, August 10, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try

Today is National S'mores day. The chocolaty, gooey, marshmallow camping treat with the irresistible flavor. Have you ever made them in your microwave for a quick treat? Try using a low pulse power cooking time and watch the marshmallow expand then shrink several times in the short 20 seconds or so, fun to watch. S'mores have been finding there way into many different types of recipes. An interesting idea is to make S'moreos. Cakespy features the Oreo cookie S'more treat with microwave directions and delectable looking photos. Cooking Stuff used the same idea with a Strawberry Oreo over her stove flame. How about S'mores cookies? Make and Bake has a recipe from Cookie Madness that during the baking process the marshmallows and chocolate bar are pressed in the cookie then the baking continues to melt them. Delish. A simpler way is to make a S'more bar as Must Love Chutney created from a recipe she found. Finally I found this recipe for a S'mores cake on Bakingbites.com. It looks gooey and decadent, made with all the ingredients in the traditional S'more. Try having that wonderful childhood camping treat either traditional, microwaved, baked or maybe make a S'more ice cream sundae to enjoy a sticky, gooey fun S'mores day.

MojaMix Cereal Review
Wednesday, August 05, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try

There is a new trend in breakfast cereal. Creating your own mixes. MojaMix is a premium custom-mixed cereal. I had to opportunity to mix my own when I was a winner of a Facebook contest. More about those details following. The steps to create your mix are easy. MojaMix makes it simple in 3 easy steps. 1. Choose a cereal base from 8 different grains. 2. Add dried fruits from 20 available. 3. Add nuts and seeds, choose from 21 here including chocolate. Simple. The variety you create is truly your own. As you are mixing your ingredients you will see on the right hand side exactly what is going in your mix and the price based on the amount and type of ingredients you have chosen. What did I make? I chose Coconut Crisp cereal base, added Mango, Pineapple and Brazil Nuts. I called my custom mix Tropic Crunch. When I received my package (shipping time was very quick) it has my name on the package with a Mix Identity that can be used to re-order the same creation again. From the MojaMix website: With literally hundreds of millions of possible combinations, our menu of yummy grains, fruits, and nuts allows each person who visits our website to find the perfect fit. And nothing feels (or tastes!) better than that.

National Waffle Day
Wednesday, August 05, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try

Today is National Waffle Day. Whether you like them out of the freezer box or homemade, it is a day to honor the syrup holding squares. Waffles can be eaten at anytime of the day. They can be made sweet for breakfast or savory with meats for dinner. My family makes ice cream sandwiches out of waffles. We use 2 waffles with softened ice cream in between then sprinkle powdered sugar over the top. Delish. I found a few wonderful waffle recipes to try.
On the blog Une-Duex Senses a Chocolate-Banana waffle is featured. The waffle is made from Trader Joe's multi grain mix with mashed bananas and chocolate chips. Sounds like a tasty combination.

From The Boastful Baker blog Chocolate Waffle Cookies made from Martha Stewart's Cookies. These cookies are made in a waffle maker for quick baking. They are finished with a white chocolate glaze. Decadent. These would be great served as a dessert with strawberries.
Finally a savory waffle meal. On Mike's Table there is a recipe for Pulled Beef over sweet potato waffles with a Chile Tamarind BBQ sauce. Wow. I bet this flavor combination explodes on your taste buds. Something to definitely try. He shows step by step photos of the recipe as part of the post. Yum.
So for today on National Waffle day, let's all chant Leggo my .......
National Watermelon Day
Monday, August 03, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try

August 3rd is the day to honor the sweet, summer, picnic fruit known as the watermelon. It is a staple for summer get togethers with many watermelon festivals nationwide. I found a few websites dedicated to watermelon. Watermelon.org has lots of information about this delicious fruit. There is a recipe here for an ambitious Rubik's Cube made of watermelon and cheeses.
On whataboutwatermelon.com there is a story about how to grow the world's largest watermelon.
I recently posted some interesting watermelon recipes including a watermelon pizza. Summertime = Watermelon.
Today would be a good day to go to the grocery store or a farmer's market and pick out a watermelon. Enjoy this day of watermelon. Just be careful where you spit the seeds.

National Mustard Day
Saturday, August 01, 2009 Posted by One 2 Try

Today is National Mustard Day. We bring awareness to the spicy, mellow, tangy, hot, or sweet yellow condiment. Did you know there is a World Famous Mustard Museum? It is located on Main Street in downtown Mount Horeb, Wisconsin. They boast a display of over 5,000 jars, bottles, and tubes from all 50 states and more than 60 countries. There is a gift shop with over 500 types of mustard available for purchase. I have not had the chance to visit the museum but I have enjoyed searching the website. Can't make it to the museum? They have online ordering by country, variety and even offer a Mustard of the Month club. If you are devoted to the yellow spread you might find a mustard you just have to try.
I found a recipe to make your own Provençale Mustard on the blog 2 Stews. Diane compares this mustard to the flavors of France. Her photos of Paris shops are lovely.
For an interesting recipe on National Mustard Day I spotted Honey Mustard Slaw with Beets and Pancetta from the blog Just Eat Food. It is made with almonds, cabbage, beets and pancetta with a honey mustard sauce. It sounds delicious.
So slather those hot dogs with the yellow goodness, because today is National Mustard Day!
