Lotus Foods is on a mission to bring exotic rice to market. Since 1995 Lotus Foods has been introducing rice handcrafted on smaller family farms from remote regions such as Bhutan, China and Bangladesh. Each variety of rice is distinct in quality, texture, color and nutritional value. Lotus Foods believes in sustainable growing. They seek out small farmers to provide economic support and bring their rices to market. Enjoy A World of Rice that is Lotus Foods.
I am in awe of the beautiful colors of the amazingly different rices Lotus Foods offers. Beautiful jet black to jade green and pink rices. The colors are intriguing, even more so when you hear the exotic names of the rice varieties.
The Jet Black rice is Forbidden Rice®: The Emporer's Exclusive Grain. The story of Forbidden Rice® is steeped in history. Legend tells us that this ancient grain was once eaten exclusively by the Emperors of China. Our most popular rice is fabled to enrich health and ensure longevity. When I sampled this exquisite rice, I thoroughly enjoyed its nutty rich flavor. The rice has a nice bite to the texture. Just the idea of eating Forbidden Rice® adds to the mystique of eating it. Plating this dark black rice with any meal adds enticement to the plate. It cooks in only 30 minutes! It was a real treat to enjoy such a lovely whole grain rice. The Forbidden Rice® is high in iron and anthocyanins (antioxidants). Forbidden Rice® is one of Lotus Foods most popular rices.
One of my very favorites of the varieties I was able to sample is the Jade Pearl Rice. This rice is bamboo infused rice. One of our most exemplary rices, both for its nutritional and flavor profile, we infuse our California grown organic pearled rice with wildcrafted BamBoom!™ extract, made from the Moso species of bamboo that grows in the virgin highland forest of south central China.I really enjoyed the flavor of Jade Pearl Rice. It has a lighter taste and reminded me of a tea like flavor. It cooks in just 20 minutes for a tasty addition to any meal. The green color looks great on the plate. Everyone loved it.
Some of the other varieties I was able to try are:
Mekong Flower Rice
Bhutanese Red Rice
I loved the very informative "All About Rice" section of Lotus Foods. There is so much more to rice than I ever imagined. Thanks to Lotus Foods, the market is being introduced to rices rarely tasted. Now your family can enjoy the exotic flavors from A World of Rice, Lotus Foods.
You can purchase each of these varieties of rice as well as gift sets, cookbooks and an exlusive Lotus Foods Stainless Steel Rice Cooker, directly online from Lotus Foods. I am definitely ordering more incredible Forbidden Rice®.
