The Club No One Wanted to Join - Book Giveaway (ends 9/20)
Friday, September 10, 2010 Posted by One 2 Try
How could it have happened? How did these unsuspecting investors be taken for their money, many of which was entire life savings? These were hard working people, real victims falling prey to greed and scandal. You will find they come from all walks of life, blue collar, white collar workers, professionals, retirees from all areas of the country. As the title states - they became involved in The Club No One Wanted to Join.
I had many conversations with my father about the Madoff Ponzi scheme. I remember when pyramid parties were all the rage a few years back. When my dad explained to me, that was pretty much what had happened with the Madoff fiasco, all I could think of was the phrase a sucker is born every minute. Easy to say when things are showing red flags everywhere, but when you have no suspicions, as was represented by the Madoff Swindler, there are no warning signs.
The essays in The Club No One Wanted to Join, are the true tales of 29 victims of the Madoff scheme. In short they are regular people, Americans who got sucked into a Ponzi scheme that even the federal government has yet to solve. They all have one thing in common: they were robbed of their life savings by the worst financial criminal in history, Bernard L. Madoff. It is time the public learns the truth. Real stories with real emotions!
Baring all their gritty details of decisions made and life paths taken, this book is a testament to resilience. Each of these 29 stories will take you into a private world. You can relate to stories. The folks could be your neighbor, or your parents, or you for that matter. Why share their experiences? So others can be aware and protected with information. Known now as Madoff Survivors, they want the public to learn the truth.
I was immediately drawn in to the heart wrenching stories. Each well written essay brings you the experiences from a first hand report.
Here are a few of the essay titles:
Rags to Riches, to Rags
True Wealth - The Gifts of Devastation
What Remains
The Sixty-Five Billion Dollar Question
Trouble is a Great Teacher
This is a book of lessons learned. A story of hope and determination to bounce back. One writer states "Life is hard and often painful. Sometimes a super powerful current comes along and you get your clock cleaned"
It has been a financial disaster of epic proportions for those involved. Since the scheme came to light and after the shock has passed, these authors want to convey how this can happen to anyone and how they survived. The stories are touching and I could not put the book down. I was touched by many of the stories. I am glad they decided to bring their experiences to print. Bravo!

in these times of 'no way out' but 'hey... try this!' we are currently living in... sounds like this should be required reading for anyone over the age of 13...
I don't know them... but their words serve a more general topic...
Be Warned...
Be Educated...
Be a Skeptic!!!
...if it's too good to be true, it probably is

I was following the scandal closely on the media, but it is a difference between a 30 second news clip and a detailed story from a victim. That's the reason I would like to read the book
