Steff Deschenes believes that each person fits a certain persona compared to ice cream flavors. Seriously her ice cream idea has prompted her to write an adorably fun book - The Ice Cream Theory.
You see Steff loves ice cream! I thought my mom was an ice cream fanatic until I started reading about Steff's adventures. One time her parents challenged her to taste each flavor of ice cream from a local company. You guessed it she ate some 36 pints of ice cream. In her ice cream trial she discovered, not everyone likes all the flavors. Thus began her comparison of ice cream flavors to people personalities throughout her life.
I enjoyed reading the light hearted writing of The Ice Cream Theory. There are chocolate people and vanilla people and people who fit into any other flavor. Steff's adventures are portrayed with incredibly tasty comparisons to quite a lot of ice cream. Her writing is filled with humor and is a delight to read!
The Theory was hatched when Deschenes was trying to make sense of her first heartbreak. In the midst of that grief, she realized that, in the same way humans have ice-cream preferences, humans have people preferences. Like ice cream flavors, social preferences shift based on age, experience, even mood. There are exotic flavors that one craves when feeling daring, comforting flavors to fall back on, flavors long-enjoyed that eventually wear out their welcome, and those unique flavors that require an acquired taste. Like people, no ice cream flavor is perfect every single time . . . and it is in this realization that the crux of Deschenes’s theory lies.
In reading the ice cream flavor chapters of The Ice Cream Theory, I have discovered I would probably fit into the Birthday Cake flavor. I love unconditionally and am always there just for you. Just like birthday cake. I know I have also run into quite a few strawberry people, the ones that are hit and miss, and cookie dough people (bad for you), the ones you know you should walk away from. It is an ambitious theory but after reading it, I get it! You can look at all the folks in your life and equate them to ice cream flavors. I have a few butter pecans in my life and I truly love them! The Ice Cream Theory is a joy to read but it should come with a friendly warning - because you will want to be eating ice cream and lots of it!
