Nielsen Massey Vanilla - Giveaway (ends 11/20)

Wednesday, November 10, 2010 Posted by One 2 Try

My goodness I have been on a whirlwind of baking lately. It is my favorite season to bake. The weather is cooler and the flavors of fall are abundant. To bake great tasting goodies you need to have the best ingredients. Nielsen Massey Vanillas are amazing.

Nielsen Massey, Vanilla Specialists, has a long history of vanilla products. They started in 1907 with premium pure vanilla products. To this day it is a family owned and operated business supplying vanilla to worldwide markets. For nearly a century Nielsen Massey vanillas have been in many a kitchen.

I found out a few interesting tidbits about vanilla.

* Thomas Jefferson introduced vanilla to the Unites States in the 1700's.
* A few drops of vanilla in a can of paint will help eliminate odors!
* A teaspoon of vanilla in tomato sauces or chili with help cut the acidity of the tomatoes.
* Vanilla Beans are hand-pollinated on family plantations.
* The vanilla cultivation process from planting to market, can take up to six years!

I have a new respect for vanilla! I also found out there are different types of vanilla. Each type is suited for different applications. The distinct qualities in each vanilla can be enhanced with the proper ingredients.

Nielsen Massey was so kind to send me the lovely Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla. This vanilla is the perfect choice for batters and doughs. I knew exactly what I wanted to make with my Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla. I have a recipe from Martha Stewart for New York Crumb Cake. I have made this recipe quite a few times for my family and it is always a big hit. Using the Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla made it extra special. The taste seemed a little richer and it sure smelled good while baking. It must have been good because Poof the cake was gone! I can't wait to make something scrumptious from the recipes listed at Nielsen Massey.

Nielsen Massey makes a complete line of Pure Vanilla Products and Pure Flavor Extracts. You can purchase Nielsen Massey Vanillas online through internet sites or from mail order catalogs, or in select retailers.
